A renovation without catches is a mirage. Or a dream. Or you hit the jackpot. Anyway, since reno problems do exist, I am listing here the most common that you can face. Just saying.

Una ristrutturazione senza inghippi è un miraggio. O un sogno. O un colpo di fortuna. In ogni caso, i problemi esistono ed io sono qui a farvi una lista di quelli più comuni. Giusto per vostra conoscenza eh.

WHICH STYLE TO CHOOSE? // QUALE STILE SCEGLIERE?
Defining the style of your home is no joke! Changes are that you have a) tons of totally different interior ideas b) no one at all. Or you already know every single detail cause you’ve been dreaming about it for years but this is another story! Well, this topic is so wide that I’ve written a post on it: read it here! // Definire lo stile della propria casa non è affatto semplice! Le possibilità sono che a) avete mille idee totalmente diverse tra loro per gli interni b) non ne avete mezza. Oppure sapete già tutto nel minimo dettaglio perché l’avete sognato per anni, ma questa è un’altra storia. Bene, questo argomento è talmente ampio che ci ho scritto un post apposta: leggetelo qui!
WHOOOPS I CHANGED MY MIND! // OOOPS HO CAMBIATO IDEA!
It happens, it happens, you are not alone! You chose those amazing tiles, they looked perfect in the shop. Yes, in the shop. Cause now, in your kitchen, they don’t look as beautiful as they did. And now?! If there is no way to change the product, find a compromise. Try to “hide” it focusing the attention on the other elements or adapt them to valorize it. Example? Always kitchen tiles talking, if the color is no more the right one for you, you can add elements like a statement lighting or decor that catch the eye, or make your wrong tiles protagonist with matching elements like cabinets and countertop. // Succede, succede, non siete sole! Avete scelto quelle meravigliose piastrelle viste in negozio ed ora, nella vostra cucina, non sembrano più tanto belle. E adesso?! Se proprio non c’è modo di cambiare il prodotto, trovate un compromesso. Potete “nasconderlo” focalizzando l’attenzione su altri elementi o adattare gli stessi ad esso per valorizzarlo. Esempio? Parlando sempre di piastrelle da cucina, se il colore non vi convince più potete o aggiungere una lampada o decorazioni che catturano lo sguardo, o rendere le piastrelle sbagliate protagoniste con mobili e piano cucina ad hoc.
BUDGET WHO? // BUDGET CHE?
It’s all about the money, honey! Here I told you how to define the budget of your reno, but if saying and doing are hard to combine and you ended up spending a bit too much, here are few tips. Said that it is better to stitch to the budget, if you went over you can a) renounce b) save c) postpone. Translation: you can accept that that expensive marble table is not necessary and simply not buy it, invest on a similar but cheaper option, delay the purchase. Focus on what’s actually necessary for your house! // Gira tutto intorno ai soldi, fanciulle! Vi ho già detto qui come definire il budget per la vostra ristrutturazione, ma se tra dire e fare c’è di mezzo un oceano intero e se vi siete trovate e spendere un po’ troppo, ecco dei consigli. Premesso che è sempre meglio non sforare, se ormai è tardi potete a) rinunciare b) risparmiare c) rimandare. Che, tradotto, significa che riguardo a quel costoso tavolo in marmo potete accettare che non vi serva e quindi non comprarlo, optare per un’alternativa più economica, rimandarne l’acquisto a tempi migliori. Concentratevi su ciò che davvero vi serve!
SOLD OUT PRODUCT // PRODOTTO ESAURITO
Choosing the right products require time and, sometimes, this means facing a “sold out”. In the renovation industry products change really fast and this is why you should always look for two options, in case one is sold. If your product is gone don’t waste too much time complaining: sometimes you can still find it in outlet stores (for better price!) or you should simply look for something similar and go on. Don’t underestimate web, we bought all the tiles of our home online! // Scegliere i prodotti giusti richiede tempo e, qualche volta, può accedere di leggere “esaurito”. Già, perché nel mondo dell’edilizia i prodotti cambiano velocemente ed ecco perché dovreste sempre scegliere due opzioni, nel caso una venisse venduta. Se il vostro prodotto è andato, non perdete tempo a lamentarvi: spesso lo si può ancora trovare negli outlet (e a un prezzo migliore!) oppure puntate ad un’alternativa. Non sottovalutate il web, noi abbiamo acquistato tutte le piastrelle di casa online!
DELAY // RITARDO
I’ve told you here how to safeguard yourself from the renovation company, so here I talk about delays not depending on it. It’s not uncommon that products (furniture, tiles, etc) are late so what to do in that case? First, keep calm. Especially during Summer or at Christmas time suppliers are easy to be late, so take a big breath and think about what you (and the company) can do meanwhile. Change, if possible, the order of the works and postpone the ones that require that product, clean what is already done (cleanings take a lot of time once the home is ready!), start moving your things to one room, hook up the utilities and so on. There is always something to do during a renovation! // Vi ho già detto qui come tutelarvi con l’impresa, quindi ora parlerò di ritardi non dovuti ad essa. Non è raro che i prodotti (mobili, piastrelle, ecc) arrivino tardi (in Estate o sotto Natale, ad esempio, i fornitori sono quasi sempre in ritardo) e dunque cosa fare in tal caso? Innanzitutto un bel respiro, poi pensate a come voi o l’impresa potete occupare il tempo nel mentre. Cambiate, se possibile, l’ordine dei lavori e posticipate quelli che dipendono dal prodotto in questione, pulite ciò che è già finito (le pulizie portano via un sacco di tempo a lavori ultimati!), iniziate a traslocare un po’ di cose, allacciate le utenze e così via. C’è sempre qualcosa da fare durante una ristrutturazione!
