Someone said that home is where heart is. Nothing more true.
But, where can we say that heart is? To me, heart is in people we love and in those little, unforgettable moments from childhood, that I will always keep with me.

Ma, dove si trova il cuore? Per me, è nelle persone che amiamo e in quei piccoli, indimenticabili momenti d’infanzia, che io terrò sempre con me.
Lots of my moments are connected to a special place: Moneglia, a small sea village in the Italian region Liguria. Here there is my grandparents’ holiday home, where I spent beautiful days, year after year, never having enough of it. Going fishing with my grandpa on his boat, eating Ligurian pesto and focaccia, spending all the day at the beach and walking with my grandma…these are just few of million beautiful memories that will be always part of me. Two weeks ago I decided, with my friend Simona, to switch off everything and have a super relaxing weekend full of food, nature and talkings. Yay! We took the train from Milan on Friday and came back on Sunday. Moneglia is and always be a home, to me. Today I want to show you some of the things you can enjoy there, so mean this post as a quick, very personal, guide to this place.

Molti di questi momenti sono collegati a un posto speciale: Moneglia, in Liguria. Lì c’è la casa delle vacanze dei miei nonni ed io ci ho passato giornate bellissime, anno dopo anno, senza mai esserne stufa. Andare a pesca con mio nonno sulla sua barca, mangiare il pesto e la focaccia Liguri, passare tutto il giorno in spiaggia, passeggiare con mia nonna… tutti questi sono solo alcuni dei milioni di ricordi che saranno sempre parte di me. Due settimane fa ho deciso, con la mia amica Simona, di staccare la spina e goderci un weekend di cibo, natura e chiacchiere. Evviva! Abbiamo preso il treno Venerdì e siamo tornate la Domenica. Moneglia è e sarà sempre casa, per me. Oggi vi mostro un po’ delle cose che potete fare là, dunque interpretate questo post come una breve, molto personale, guida a questo posto.

Friday // Venerdì
AFTERNOON – EVENING // POMERIGGIO – SERA
We arrived in Moneglia by train at 5 pm, the weather was cold, cloudy and not so “hey, let’s go to the beach!”, but we didn’t care. The fresh air made us immediately feel better. After leaving bags at home, we went to have an aperitif (you know how much I love aperitif) and enjoy a fresh fish dinner. We opted for La Grotta Wine Bar for the most delicious (and biggest) Spritz ever and yummy snacks, then the restaurant of Gian Maria Hotel. Trust me, with a fish dish, white wine and a dessert, you will leave full and satisfied, spending just about 20 € for each person. Other amazing restaurants are U Limottu, Assirto and La Pagoda. For a drink and girls talkings, the Bar Miramare is always a must!

Siamo arrivate a Moneglia alle 17:00, il tempo era brutto, freddo, nuvoloso e non molto “ehy, andiamo in spiaggia!”, ma a noi non importava. L’aria fresca ci ha fatto subito sentire meglio. Dopo aver lasciato le borse a casa, siamo andate a fare un aperitivo (sapete quanto io amo gli aperitivi) e a goderci una cena di pesce fresco. Abbiamo optato per La Grotta Wine Bar per lo Spritz più buono (e grande) di sempre, poi per il ristorante del Gian Maria Hotel. Credetemi, con un piatto di pesce, vino bianco ed un dessert, uscirete sazi e soddisfatti, spendendo solo sui 20 € a testa. Altri ottimi ristoranti sono U Limottu, Assirto e La Pagoda. Per un drink e chiacchiere tra ragazze il Bar Miramare è sempre un must!

Saturday // Sabato
MORNING // MATTINA
We woke up early and had breakfast at the Il Centrale Bar, then asked for a bus going to a village on the mountain, Comeglio, where there is my all-time favourite restaurant. The weather was still bad, so we decided to eat in that amazing place hoping for a sunnier afternoon. Unfortunately, there wasn’t a bus for noon, so we took the weird decision to reach the restaurant by walking. Comeglio is 15 minutes far (by car) from Moneglia, connected by a tight, all curves, moutain street. We walked for an hour and half under a light rain and yes, it has been the most deserved lunch of all times! Anyway, this amazing restaurant is Trattoria Pagliettini: you won’t just eat the most delicious Ligurian food, but also will enjoy a breathtaking panoramic view, having lunch (or dinner) on the terrace, under a grapevines roof. So, so, so romantic.

Ci siamo svegliate presto e abbiamo fatto colazione a Il Centrale Bar, poi abbiamo chiesto
per un pullmino che ci portasse a Comeglio, un paesino sulla montagna, dove c’è il mio ristorante preferito di sempre. Il tempo era ancora brutto, così abbiamo deciso di mangiare là sperando in un pomeriggio di sole. Sfortunatamente, non c’erano pullman per mezzogiorno, così abbiamo preso la folle decisione di raggiungere il post a piedi. Comeglio è distante circa 15 minuti (in macchina) da Moneglia, tramite una strada di montagna stretta e tutta curve. Abbiamo camminato per un’ora e mezza sotto una pioggia leggera e sì, è stato il pranzo più meritato di sempre! Comunque, il nome di questo ristorante è Trattoria Pagliettini: non solo mangerete il più delizioso cibo Ligure, ma godrete anche di una vista spettacolare, pranzando (o cenando) in terrazza, sotto un tetto di piante di vite. Molto, molto romantico.
AFTERNOON – EVENING // POMERIGGIO – SERA
After lunch, we came back by a different path, passing through the wood. We went to the centre of Moneglia to visit the park of the Fort of Villafranca, where beautiful plants and historic ruins give a timeless atmosphere. Then, we crossed Moneglia to visit the Curch of San Giorgio, built around XIV century and its courtyard, now hosting a beautiful hotel, Abbadia San Giorgio. For dinner we went to Sciamadda with a friend to taste the most delicious cheese focaccia!

Dopo pranzo, siamo tornate indietro passando per un sentiero attraverso il bosco. Siamo tornate in centro per visitare il parco della Fortezza di Villafranca, dove piante e rovine storiche creano un’atmosfera senza tempo. Poi, abbiamo attraversato Moneglia per vedere la Chiesa di San Giorgio, costruita intorno al XIV secolo, ed il suo chiostro, ora ospitante un incantevole hotel, Abbadia San Giorgio. Per cena siamo andate da Sciamadda con una nostra amica per assaggiare la focaccia al formaggio più buona!

Sunday // Domenica
MORNING – AFTERNOON // MATTINA – POMERIGGIO
We started the day with the best breakfast: a krapfen of Pasticceria Vernengo (this krapfen, after
about 20 years is still, in my opinion, the best I have ever tasted). Let this heavenly place
tempt you with all its delicious sweets! Finally the weather was sunny, so we took some photos from the panoramic promenade, then the beach! The sea was so clear and beautiful, we enjoyed the whole day there, having relax and working a bit on our tan. For lunch we opted for a piece of focaccia (never enough), the best is from Panificio Castellucchio, along the carrugio (typical tight Ligurian road).
Before taking the train to Milan we NEEDED a consolation, so we came back to Vergengo and bought everything our stomach could bring just 3 pastries.

Abbiamo cominciato la giornata con la migliore colazione: un bombolone alla crema della Pasticceria Vernengo (questo krapfen è ancora, dopo circa 20 anni, mia opinione, il più buono che abbia mai mangiato). Lasciate che questo posto paradisiaco vi tenti con i suoi deliziosi dolci! Finalmente il tempo era bello, così abbiamo fatto qualche fotografia dalla passeggiata panoramica e poi spiaggia! Il mare era cristallino e bellissimo, abbiamo passato tutta la giornata là, rilassandoci e lavorando un po’ sulla nostra abbronzatura. A pranzo abbiamo preso della focaccia (mai abbastanza), la migliore la troverete da Panificio Castellucchio, lungo il carrugio.
Prima di prendere il treno per Milano, AVEVAMO BISOGNO di consolazione, così siamo tornate da Vernengo e abbiamo comprato tutto ciò che il nostro stomaco poteva tenere solo 3 paste.
